Epilogue message from Gaurav

Three years and nine months, my part at HWS is coming to an end on 28th Dec 2007, the first time that I came to Kalkaji was 28th March 2004 to collect Rs.4000 towards the preparation of the famous question papers used pre-interview until we started to use Brainbench and then nothing. I firmly believe that three out of this group (Jitin, Ashutosh and me) did not really care what the house looked like or the company will form into; it was just Ramesh Chand Nougain and his influence which attracted us and drew us to this adventure trip. As Sanjay referred to us “the NIC gang” or the core group.

The extra cautious and colorful Jitin, introvert and intelligent Ashutosh, big mouth Gaurav and of course who can forget shotgun Ruchi; naïve characters of a story unfolding at Kalkaji. I never did imagine we would come this far. People joined in and left; NIC gang member Geetika; just out of college Arpit and the financial human resource guy Sanjay.

Looking back suddenly I am hit with this wave of nostalgia and sometimes I get lost in all the stories that wove around us; Joe, Deepu, Harvinder, Sharad, Zahid to name a few. The passion was clearly visible and I believe until some point in time we had a synergy moving around us that bound us to the common goal of taking HWS to the next level. Shubhendu ji with his down to earth attitude, Lal eating all the almonds off the biscuits and Pinku running around with sandwiches. The rainy day pakoras and visits to Nehru Place. The false-poisoning of Harvinder and series of cricket matches. Finally moving to Shastri Park.

There are so many of these short stories that we can talk endlessly but I think the only thing we do not do a lot now is talking, lost somewhere down the winding road is the passion we had for each other as friends probably it is true that power and money corrupt or that the real shades come out in time; whatever, I am not here to make statements at anyone, I may be as guilty as you are. When Ashutosh left I suddenly was hit by this emotional pang and I realized the reality that probably we lost the synergy somewhere down the road and the so called core group was actually breaking, Jitin was destined to move to US permanently.

I would end with a short interview story I had recently, a new IT company is being setup and this is the conversation I had:

Interviewer: Can you work from a very small place in the crowded Darya Ganj with just four people, our plans to grow in India are big we want to go to 120 by 2009.
Me: I have taken challenges as they come and have a passion to tackle them, when I joined HWS I was the fifth employee now we have ninety.
Interviewer: Well that’s OK now you are 30 then you were 25 you fall in love when you are 18 and you marry when you are 30. So do you still believe in risks?

Really I paused for a long time here and suddenly I realized that it is difficult not because I cannot do it but as I will not have all of you. So this is a small contribution to the time and the moments we shared together.

Sincerely wishing that the show goes on and sometime somewhere we meet again in good spirits with lots of stories to tell. Wish you all the best in your future endeavors; keep in touch :)
